Airport Express

Wow, is this little thing handy! I got an Apple AirPort Express because I thought it might be fun to be able to stream music from my computer to our home speakers. When it arrived and I set it up (a remarkably easy process), I was extremely surprised: the sound was amazing. I don’t know what I expected the quality to be like, but maybe I associate mp3s with tinny computer speakers or tiny iPod earbuds. I was blown away when I hit ‘play’ in iTunes and a huge, warm sound came out.

Infinity Conical Burr Grinder

While I love my coffee maker, a nifty Capresso model with a thermal carafe (handy because it won’t burn your coffee or cause you to fret about whether or not you turned the dang thing off) and a gold filter, it tends to brew a slightly gritty cup of coffee. Not long ago I was reading something about burr grinders vs. blade grinders, and realized that the blade grinder I’ve been using was probably contributing to the grit problem: blade grinders rely on pure chance to grind the beans, resulting in a seemingly random distribution of coffee dust and bean chunks. Put those grounds in a gold filter and the coffee dust goes right through and into the pot.
